Stereotypes Are Stoopid

Two major retailers just showed us this is true.

But let’s be real: pretty and brainy have gone hand-in-hand for millennia.

Here are just two examples from the world today: P!nk, who uses her artistry to encourage girls to nurture their individuality and independence. (Who wants to be among the “stupid girls”?) And Mireya Major, former NFL cheerleader, who is a National Geographic explorer. (Jane Goodall has written the foreword to her new book.)

So let’s keep showing the world who and what women and girls really are.

And when you encounter anyone who thinks being pretty excludes being a brain and vice versa, ditch them and go be with people who will value the complete and genuine you.

TODAYMoms blogger Rebecca Dube writes about the infamous JC Penney’s shirt, “Really, people are still buying into the stereotype that pretty and smart can't go hand-in-hand? How dated, ridiculous and sad. Surely we can do better for our daughters.”
